File Import

To Access: Data Source -> File Import

File Format and File Location must be configured before adding a new File.

Click the  button in top-right corner to add a new File to VDV.

Data files can either be Incremental or Single where all data is appended to the same file.

Single File

  • Start with typing in the Site Name that will appear in VDV and choose the Owner of the data.
  • Choose Single File in File Structure
  • Choose correct Format of the file to add
  • Choose the Location of the file
  • Open the Folder and select the correct File (click on the EYE icon to see the data file content)
  • Click Next

Incremental Data Files

  • Start with typing in the Site Name that will appear in VDV and choose the Owner of the data.
  • Choose Incremental File
  • Choose correct Format of the file to add
  • Choose the Location of the file
  • Type in File Prefix (Required). The import process will only match the incremental files that match the File Prefix.
  • Open the Folder and select the correct File that matches the selected File Prefix. It does not matter which file you choose, they will all be processed in the import process.
  • click on the EYE icon to see the data file content
  • Click Next

Override Data: If selected then VDV will import all data that is converted regardless if it has been imported before. This is handy if corrected data is sent afterwards or when importing forecast data.

File Overview (chapters below are the same for Local and FTP)

If everything is correct a table like this will appear. If it is empty then the File Format is not correct and you must click back and select a different File Format or File.

Click Next

Set Alias Names and Units

A list of all columns in the data file will appear. Modify the Alias name as needed and set Unit for each sensor. Click Next.

Confirm

Go over the setup and make sure everything is correct. Click Save.

The newly added File Data Source will be imported automatically into VDV. The File will create a VDV Site with the same name as the Site Name of the File. The new VDV Site is identical to other sites created using db.robot.c and can be used in exactly the same way.

Where is my data?

Within 1 minute VDV will process the data file and import it into the database. The process time depends on the size of the Data File but normally the data is imported withing 1-3 minutes.

Go to Update Overview to see the Latest Time for the new Data File.
